I don't know what you mean by saying that "Zuma is going too far" unless you are asserting that he is needlessly extending a hand to Mbeki when the SA president is so tainted by his recent policy failings and his perceived persecution of Zuma.
I think Zuma legitimately wants to quell divisions in the ANC, but that doesn't mean that they will go away if he talks loud enough and often enough - the divisions are transparent to everyone.
